At Global Children School, one of our beliefs is a focus on dance, movement & music as part of our student’s early global education. Our education system focuses on a wide variety of topics to ensure our students are getting a well-rounded education, and movement, music & dance is part of that focus. We believe, based on research, that incorporating this into an early education benefits our students. Promoting active lifestyles, cultural exploration with music, and dances from various regions across the world we ensure that our students are not only getting active but also learn about different cultures as they keep active.
A healthy lifestyle no doubt requires physical activity, encouraging our young children to get active in fun forms such as dance early on makes exercise and activity exciting, and not so much like work (as many of us parents see it)!
Personal Development
Dance encourages movement and opportunities to experience and develop motor skills for children. It does not have to be a developed, structured dance that you would see in dance classes, it can be as simple movements as turning and jumping around your own living room!
Dancing engages all aspects of physical development. Incorporating most, if not all, parts of the body with its wide and unlimited range of movements. Dance also evokes creativity, play a song, and let your child move along to the music on their own! Your child will sense the music and respond with their own creative fun dance moves!
In early childhood, creative movements can be paired with some forms of structured dance styles. This not only allows children to learn about different music and dance styles from around the world but also to provide a balance of cultural exploration and their own creative exploration.
Getting Active
Dance is a great form of exercise. It allows children to be active without it feeling like work. It allows for creativity and their own development of skills and interests. Early development or encouragement of dance also promotes a lifelong love of movement and physical activity!
Languages
Movement is vital for development and growth in our children, which is also vital for language skills! Dance allows all of our children’s brains to be active, following steps, movements, and listening to the music also lets children hear different voices and languages, developing linguistic skills and promoting an interest in multilingualism!
Body Awareness
Tied to sensory awareness, dancing involves the body, and letting go of control, while also maintaining complete control of the movements of the body. Dancing and responding to the music develops skills to let your body react to things around you, while also keeping control. Movement & dance also develop coordination skills!
Sensory Awareness
At a child’s young age, their sensory development is highly active and important. Sensory development includes all five of the senses, and with dance three of the five of those senses are all used at once! Meshing together touch, sight, and hearing, dance (with music), and embracing their own creativity to move with the beats of the music, children develop their sensory skills without any effort, it comes naturally! Improved sensory skills allow children to understand the world around them more, and appreciate the world around them more as well!
